Community

Since 1921, the Junior League of Greater Princeton (JLGP) has been a leader in promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.  We are deeply committed to improving the welfare and empowerment of women and children in the Greater Princeton area.  Members of the JLGP serve as catalysts for lasting community change.  Year after year, our volunteers develop and implement programs and events that directly respond to our most pressing community needs.

Our current community goal of ending food insecurity in Mercer and Bucks Counties in partnership with community organizations can be achieved by empowering members to become change agents; through advocacy, education, and community service. So far we have provided training to members on many facets of food security and hands-on service opportunities to achieve this, and are working to develop a signature project in this space

Our goal is to help Princeton-area women develop civic leadership skills through the work they do, then put those talents to work in the communities that need it. Our current focus on food security gives women opportunities to learn and grow, while positively impacting the communities where they live, work, and play.

The JLGP’s work centers around improving our local communities through effective action and leadership. We have identified food security as the most pressing issue in our community right now, and we are helping local women take action to resolve it. In the past year, we have participated in OneProject NJ, collected supplies for Rise, participated in a JLGP-created Hunger Action Month Challenge, and made over 3,000 sandwiches for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen at our annual Great Sandwich Shuffle. We believe that these impactful actions have the power to bring us closer to our goal of combatting hunger
